Antialiasing
Aliasing refers to the jagged edges and other rendering artifacts commonly associated with computer-generated images. They are caused by simplifications incorporated in various algorithms in the rendering pipeline, resulting in inaccuracies in the generated image. Usually these simplifications are necessary to create a pipeline implementation that is low in cost and capable of achieving good interactive frame rates. In this chapter we will review some of the causes of aliasing artifacts and describe some of the techniques that can be used to reduce or eliminate them.
