HDR Video Compression

HDR video compression presents several similarities with HDR image compression. Many methods use range compression via tone mapping while maintaining residuals. All methods use LDR standards for encoding, although via the use of higher bit-depths and/or multiple streams. Some of the methods also employ coherence in between frames to avoid temporal artifacts. This chapter presents the methods which were originally designed with HDR video compression in mind.
