Membranes for hydrocarbon fuel processing and separation

A. Gugliuzza, A. Iulianelli and A. Basile,     Institute on Membrane Technology of the Italian National Research Council, ITM-CNR, Italy

Abstract:

The role of the membrane technology in hydrocarbon fuel processing and separation is discussed, spotlighting various classes of materials used for membranes. The advantages and shortcomings are considered in relation to the molecules being separated, examining efforts to overcome the conventional trade-off relationship between selectivity and permeability. The scale-up from fundamental research to large-scale industry is analysed considering important opportunities in design, rationalization and optimization of innovative industrial production. ...
