Creating Simple Add-Ins for Word, Excel, or PowerPoint

An add-in is functionality outside of the built-in program features that’s made available from within a program, and is not part of an individual document or template. Many different types of add-ins are available to the 2007 release programs, as summarized in the list that follows, and as you see when you view the Manage list on the Add-Ins tab of the <Program> Options dialog box.

A handful of add-ins are built in to the programs and loaded when you first install the program (such as some types of SmartTags in Word or Office Excel 2007, and some parts of the Document Inspector in Word, Excel, and Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007).
