Energy, Environment, and Sustainable Development
Abstract
In this chapter, the links between energy, environment, and sustainable development are discussed. The six main pillars to be addressed with respect to any sustainability issue are efficiency, cost effectiveness, resource use, design and analysis, energy security, and environment. The chapter starts with an overview of energy resources on Earth, of which solar energy is the most important. Renewable energy is introduced and classified. Important global issues are caused by population increase and per capita consumption of commodities such as energy.
