Renewable-Energy-Based Power Generating Systems

Abstract

This chapter introduces and discusses power generation systems based on renewable energy resources. Renewable energies have the attribute of being inexhaustible, but they have often a fluctuating and intermittent nature. Hence, the engineering challenges of power generation systems based on renewable energies are more stringent than the challenges presented by conventional systems. The major engineering difficulty relates to the development of inexpensive systems that allow for reduced capital investment in a context in which the power generation efficiency is relatively reduced.
