Discrete-return airborne laser sensors produce a three-dimensional cloud of points depicting the horizontal and vertical distribution of biological material with high spatial resolution. The strong relationships that exist between laser data and AGB can be attributed to the ability of airborne lasers to accurately capture the canopy height and density of the canopy, both of which are highly correlated with biomass.
