Preface to the second edition

Since the first edition of this book was published in 2012, the field of remote sensing has experienced extensive growth and development. An updated text that examines and describes in detail this growth is now needed.
There are several remarkable trends. The first trend is the steadily increasing volume of remotely sensed data, driven by the growing number of satellites with higher spatial and temporal resolutions.
