9.1 Introduction
An inclusive and exhaustive Statistical Business Registers (SBRs) is the backbone for producing survey based economic statistics and an important element of a National Statistical Institutes (NSIs) statistical infrastructure. It provides the populations and characteristics of statistical units. It also serves as a central data source for querying legal units, enterprises, and enterprise groups.
Additionally, the SBR can provide links to administrative units and registers, as a central data source, enabling the use of administrative data for statistical purposes. It can provide unique identifiers enabling linkages at the microlevel across statistical domains as needed for producing national and international statistics.
This chapter provides an overview of SBRs in Statistics Indonesia and the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). It starts by looking at the Indonesian and Australian context (Section 9.2) and then proceeds to definitions of a SBR (Section 9.3).
