Abstract
This chapter introduces the chemical structure of the silk fiber followed by background information on the different classes of dyes that are applied on silk. It explains the pre-treatment of silk fiber before it is subjected to coloration processes. It outlines the various procedures of dye application on silk, since these procedures differ from dye to dye. The chapter further reviews the advances in novel dyes and the technology of dyeing silk. Due to the increasing demand of ecofriendly processed textiles, the dyeing of silk with natural dyes is also discussed along with a few technological trends in this field. ...
