Developing Expertise in Coaching
There are many excellent books, workshops, training programs, and university courses available for those interested in learning the basics of coaching and achieving a level of competence. However, the key to developing expertise in coaching is likely to be found, as it has been in so many disciplines, in deliberate practice. Shadrick and Lussier (2009, 295–296) provide a detailed discussion of nine characteristics of deliberate practice in order to describe what it is and to help differentiate it from other types of training and practice.
