It is helpful at this point to remind ourselves that human change is complex (Gilbert, 2002) and that this axiom presents a unique dilemma for coaches. To become effective change partners for their clients, coaches must develop more than just an extensive understanding of the science of human learning and change; they must develop a unique personal experience, understanding, and appreciation of change by participating in the same change and learning processes that they facilitate for their clients.
