India has not been a traditional coffee market; it is predominantly a country that is tea based. Nonetheless, coffee is a popular drink in the southern parts of the country. South Indian filter coffee has a country-of-origin tag and is popular among Indians. With such a backdrop, there were a few packaged brands of coffee that were introduced even during the 1960s (Das, 2015).
