It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

What Is a Drone?
Drone is an aeronautical term referring to an unmanned aircraft that navigates via onboard computer or by remote control (RC). It has its origins in the military going back to the mid-1930s and was first used to refer to remote-control aircraft that were used for target practice (paying homage to a drone bee and its queen operator). In more recent times, drone became the common term for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV); the word still conjures military applications for many people but is increasingly becoming a more neutral term as consumer and civil applications become more common.
