We have finally arrived at the pivotal point of the entire change process; the previous phases have been essentially a preparation for this, and the subsequent phases will consist of the lengthy and sometimes monotonous tasks of finishing up. This is the phase during which you will travel across the bridge from the familiar, comfortable, and less than optimal world of today and take the first tenuous steps into the modern and interesting environment you have envisioned. It is no accident that we use the expression “first tenuous steps,” because the manner in which change is effected is a series of small, steady steps.
