14Agile 2 in Service Domains

Agile 2 ideas are not just for technology products. The whole point        of Agile 2 is to help humans work together to accomplish things—all kinds of things! Indeed, we have seen people use Agile ideas and techniques for planning chores around the house, for improving surgical procedures, and for building construction. Pretty much any human endeavor involving more than one person can potentially benefit from looking at it with Agile 2 ideas in mind.

This does not mean that every Agile 2 idea applies to every situation, and it does not mean that any Agile framework can be used as a starting point for any activity; rather, it means that there are Agile 2 ideas (and other ideas too) that might help.

There is one nontechnical function that is present in nearly every product and service organization: human resources (HR). In this chapter, we will consider the impact of Agile 2 on human resources and discuss a new HR model known as PeopleOps, one of several modern reinterpretations of HR from a “people and culture” perspective.

We will also provide some examples of the use of Agile 2 ideas in a nonproduct and highly human-centric domain: healthcare clinical delivery. Our intention is not to show how Agile 2 ideas can be used in a whole range of non-product activities: that would justify many books just about that. This chapter merely attempts to illustrate that Agile 2 is not just for building products and technical stuff.
