Once the flow of value through the software production system has been stabilized and the current Lead Time(LT) for the system established, it is possible to estimate the total LT for a release or project. A release or project is simply a collection of feature requests—an aggregation of units of inventory for the software production system.
However, multiplying the Production Rate, (R), by the size of the release, (V), to get a total Lead Time makes a huge assumption—that nothing prevents the continuous flow of transformation through the software production system.
