This chapter explains to those who make software for a living and sell that software as a product how to apply Throughput Accounting to their business. The software development organization within the business will be referred to as the “engineering” organization. Because Agile Product Management is a huge topic on which an entire book could be dedicated, the scope of this chapter is restricted to identifying how product management can help engineering be more effective and to devising metrics that show the effectiveness (value added) of engineering in a software product company.
