appendix A. AWS account setup and configuration

This appendix is for readers unfamiliar with Amazon Web Services. It explains how to get set up on AWS and how to configure your environment for the examples in the book.

A.1 Set up an AWS account

Before you can start using AWS, you need to create an account. Your account is a basket for all your cloud resources. You can attach multiple users to an account if multiple people need access to it; by default, your account will have one root user. To create an account, you need the following:

  • A telephone number to validate your identity

  • A credit card to pay your bills
