4.1 Modelling

A model is an abstract description of a subject. Here the subject could be anything from a situation (such as a conflict), a system (e.g. a banking system) to the dynamics of a market (e.g. an auction market). To build a model of a subject means to identify the key components of the subject and describe the relations between them. The hope is to use the model to capture the main behaviour of the subject.
