Abstract

This chapter discusses the factors influencing the tourist choice of airport. The initial section introduces the concepts associated with leisure travel, life stage, tourism trip type, and aviation choices. The airport context is then summarised. Underpinning methodologies that can determine choice for air transport applications are reviewed, before discussion on a series of themes relating to air transport applications that have a focus on airport choice for tourists: the role of airport catchment areas, airport region strategic planning, and possible impacts of technology development.
