Previously developed hardware, like the other topics in chapter 11, may or may not apply to a project depending upon the selected certification strategy.
PDH is invoked if there is an intention to reuse hardware that was developed at some earlier time. There are numerous reasons for reusing previously developed hardware, but for the purposes of this book the most relevant reason is to simplify and shorten the path (and cost) to DO-254 compliance and the eventual approval of the hardware.
Most PDH will come from one or more of the following sources:
• Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware or component
• Airborne hardware developed to other standards (e.g., a military or company ...
