How big is a lot that is 2,000 square feet? If carpeting cost $13 a square yard, how much would it cost you to carpet a room that was 18 feet by 24 feet? When you have completed this chapter, you'll be able to answer all kinds of questions involving the areas of rectangles and triangles.
As we work through this chapter, you'll see material from Chapter 2, “Essential Arithmetic,” as well as some from Chapter 7, “Fractions,” and Chapter 8, “Decimals.” Most of what we do here will be multiplication and division, but none of it should get too complicated. Review what you think you might need.
