Some Features of the Quantitative Toolkit
The material in this chapter covers ground that is probably familiar to many readers, but the intent here is to point up some of the peculiarities of the quantitative tools used in finance that, at least in some cases, do not often receive as much comment as they probably deserve. An earlier draft of this book scattered this discussion throughout the text, making it more difficult for those who would prefer to skip over such matters (either because of excessive familiarity or because they are repelled by them) to do so.
