A piece of photographic art doesn’t always end with the print. There are a series of print and image manipulations that can be done to further transform your image, add a different level of depth, or add more narrative to an otherwise ordinary image. For example, a traditional portrait is usually perceived as a depictive image of a person. Folding or distorting the face might start injecting a sense of psychosis, fractured identity, or angst. It is, of course, up to the artist to know why they are making the art, but having a wide spectrum of possible outcomes can help the artist find not only an aesthetic style, but a refined concept as well.
