Everything has a first time. Baby takes her first step. You take your first trip in an airplane. A congressman keeps a promise. Yet when it comes to technology, taking that first step can often be an odd or awkward experience.

With electronics, the first step starts with taking the thing out of the box, which can often be an ordeal. That’s why I wrote this chapter. My purpose is help you do some initial orientation, take care of first-order duties, and become more comfortable with what could be a brand-new experience: using the Fire phone.
