I wrote much of this book in the café of my local leisure centre because builders were doing lots of drilling at my home and it was too hard to think straight. The leisure centre café is a favourite place for old people in the town to meet for a chat over coffee after they have had a swim. Which meant that I spent a lot of time overhearing their conversations. Somewhat to my surprise they did not talk about playing bridge and bowls or going on cruises, as I would have expected.
