What are some of the most important things to know in creating an effective pitch?

You [have] got to have a whole show bible. It should detail everywhere that that show is going to go for the next three to five years. Good bibles have the entire first season, or mini episodes, outlined or a loose outline that follows all the characters and their arcs. It has the pilot script written or more detailed outlines.
