2. Just Ring the Bell When You Get There


As I’m sitting here beginning to write, the doorbell rings. Not the doorbell for my front door—the one for my Web site. When a visitor hits the homepage of my site, a real doorbell chime gets triggered on my desk. It’s as if the visitor were saying, “Hello, just called to say ‘hi.’”

Why, you ask, would I have such a thing? It began when I wanted to represent a user’s visit to my site in a way that didn’t require me to visit a specific statistics page.
