14. Close to You

One of the concepts I’ve exploited many times in projects is that of proximity—how close you are to things and the relationship that transpires as a result of that distance. The code for determining the distance between two points is pretty simple, but it can be used to solve many varied and complex design problems. For instance, you can use it to reveal more information as users get nearer to a certain point on the screen, or to make the volume increase as they creep up on an object, or to make a film speed up or slow down depending on how near they are to the center of the frame.
