17. The Special Capability of Making Many Mistakes
I always hated doing math in school. I could never see the point of learning logarithm tables parrot-fashion—I mean, what the hell were they for? I still don’t know! They just never taught you why this stuff was useful. The only time I got a ruler across the palm of my hands was when I wasn’t paying attention in math. So yeah, I hated math with a passion. That’s why it’s bizarre that I now find mathematics absolutely mind-blowing and actively seek out reading material on the subject—and there’s no danger of me not paying attention. If only it had been like this in school.
