2.1 High‐Voltage Power Systems
For the distribution and transmission of electric power, standardized voltages according to IEC 60038 are used worldwide. For three‐phase AC applications, two voltage levels are given as follows:
- Low voltage: Up to and including 1 kV AC (or 1500 V DC)
- High voltage: Above 1 kV AC (or 1500 V DC)
In Europe, 245 kV lines were used for the interconnection of power supply systems. Long‐distance transmission, for example, between the hydro‐power plants and consumers, was done by 245 kV lines.
