To understand the Android Browser application, it’s important to first understand the state of web browsing before Android.
Google has always cared deeply about web technology. From the beginning, Google’s main mission has been supplying results to search queries. So investing more broadly in web technology like browsers made sense; the better the vehicles are that deliver those results, the better experience Google could offer for those results.
