VIRTUAL MACHINES AND EMULATORS
Video games notoriously push the boundaries of hardware, pegging CPUs to full utilization and demanding more and more polygons from graphics cards. The best video games stress the limits of hardware in order to bring us awesome games and virtual worlds. An eminent forerunner of today’s game consoles was the Atari 2600. In game terms, the 2600 unleashed adventuring dragons, invaders from space, and dozens more creatures and worlds, and it did so with not even 8 bits of colors to choose from and with embarrassingly feeble hardware specs compared to a TV remote control.
