In this short chapter we review some of the thoughts of Simone Weil (1909–1943); Weil was a remarkable French writer/philosopher, a tireless advocate for workers, and one who enthusiastically participated in manual labor the better to understand it. Her writings are wide-ranging, but include discussions of problems with the current system of employment as she found it, and how it might be improved.
Weil’s biography and thoughts each inform the other. Indeed, she believed that philosophy was action, and acted on that belief, so that her life and writing are virtually inseparable. ...
