ARCHITECTURE & CITYSCAPES

Cityscapes are among my all-time favorite subjects to draw. I love the geometry of architecture and the energy of city life. Because of these two factors in particular, I believe architectural drawings can elicit much emotion. Much of the artwork that I create in my spare time incorporates urban architecture in one way or another. I find the straight lines and angles soothing to draw.

In this chapter, I will guide you through a few observational exercises to develop an awareness of the various architectural elements around you. Specifically, you will sketch out some examples of stairs, windows, and cornices. Let’s put your colored pencils to the test with the exercises in this chapter!
