On August 3, 2004, IBM released a technical preview of IBM Cloudscape Version 10. While this in itself is exciting news, more importantly, IBM also made one of the most significant contributions in the history of the open source database community by contributing the source code for IBM Cloudscape to the Apache Software Foundation as the Apache Derby database.
