11. Pulling the Plug Early

This chapter discusses projects that seem to be heading for failure, what your options are, and how to decide what you should do.

When things aren’t going well, remember that your project is on the line. As I’ve said several times in this book, many software projects fail. Once things get off track, the chance of failure greatly increases. It’s much harder to rescue a failing project than to keep a project on track in the first place. If you do nothing to actively manage a project, failure is almost assured. Whatever you’re going to do, it’s important that you do it decisively.
