Apple and Adobe began the desktop publishing revolution by introducing the first high-quality printing solution for personal computers. Although Adobe created the PostScript printing system, Apple was the first to include it in both the Macintosh operating system and the first PostScript printer, the Apple LaserWriter. Apple has continued to pioneer advancements in printing software with OS X by adopting a printing workflow based on the Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) and the Common UNIX Printing System (CUPS).
