Lesson 18. Providing Security via the VPN Service
A virtual private network connection is like having an impossibly long Ethernet cable from a user’s computer or device somewhere else in the world to your organization’s internal network; your users can use the VPN to encrypt all traffic between their computers or devices and the computers inside your organization’s internal network.
Don’t confuse a firewall and a VPN; a firewall can block network traffic based on several possible criteria—such as the port number and source or destination address—and there is no authentication involved, but a user must authenticate to use the VPN service.
