Power Management and Portables
All Apple portable computers (that is, PowerBook and iBook models) can be powered either by a battery or by an AC power adapter. A variety of features programmed into the operating system enable the user to monitor the charge level of the main battery and to control the computer's power usage. How one uses these power-management features determines how long the computer can be used between recharging. How the user manages these features can also affect the battery's longevity—how long the battery lasts before it needs to be replaced.
