System startup certainly isn’t the most glamorous part of Mac OS X, but it’s clearly important and technically quite impressive. Apple has improved startup and runtime processes with every revision of Mac OS X. When things work correctly, the startup process on Intel-based Macs is generally under 30 seconds. Obviously, users appreciate a quick startup, but most don’t and shouldn’t have to care what goes on during system startup because they expect their Macs to work properly.
