Although it is possible to program .NET using only the command line compiler, it is much easier and more enjoyable to use Visual Studio.NET. In this chapter we cover the basics of using Visual Studio to edit, compile, run, and debug programs. You will then be equipped to use Visual Studio in the rest of the book. This chapter covers the basics to get you up and running using Visual Studio. We will introduce additional features of Visual Studio later in the book as we encounter a need.
