- Abstract persistence schema

In EJB 2.0-style container managed persistence, the set of abstract properties that are managed by the container. These include persistent data properties (‘virtual instance variables’), and persistent associations. See page 410.
- Application server

Anything that provides support services to a component-based application. In this book, we will usually assume that the term refers to a J2EE-compliant application server, which supports JSP, Servlets, and EJBs. However, application server technology predates J2EE and, indeed, Java. See page 553.
