8.1 Visualization
Visualization, generally speaking, is the art and science of conveying information to a human observer by means of an image; we already learned about the most important and widespread visualization techniques in medical imaging – windowing, which makes information hidden in the full intensity depth of the image visible, and reformatting, which allows for exploring a data cube or volume in arbitrary directions. However, when speaking about medical image processing, the beautiful and astonishing photorealistic images generated from volume data often come to mind.
