Scattering of Sound

Abstract

This chapter deals with the concepts of scattering and reverberation. It starts with a discussion of the basic physics and associated phenomena, and focuses on scattering from point-like single and multiple objects, as well as from extended, nearly plane, rough surfaces. The theoretical basis is provided for scattering calculations including scattering from curved, rough surfaces, as well as forward- and backscattering. The discussion includes rigid and elastic spheres, gas bubbles, individual fish and fish schools, as well as extended objects such as submarines.
