10.2.5.1.2. Piston Sources
The acoustic power radiated from a piston source small compared with the wavelength, i.e., ka ≪ 1, is identical to the power radiated by a simple source having the same source strength Qs, since a small piston acts as a volume source with characteristics independent of the exact source shape. A circular piston source in an infinite, rigid baffle is covered in several textbooks [34–36] and only the most important characteristics of a circular piston source in an infinite rigid baffle of infinite size are given in this section.
