10.7. Other Sonar Types
In addition to the SBESs and MBESs, side-scan and synthetic aperture sonars discussed in previous sections, underwater acoustic transducers are used in a broad variety of applications, such as positioning, navigation, velocity, and depth measurements; military detection and tracking of torpedoes and mines, as well as in their homing facilities; fishery; and communications and data transmission. Transducers used in fishery are discussed in detail in Chapter 12, Bio- and Fishery Acoustics, and Communications are dealt with in Chapter 11, Signal Processing.
