DFSS is applicable to just about any development project involving a variety of engineering disciplines. An individual mechanical engineer can use DFSS while developing a relatively simple mechanical device like a pair of scissors or a mouse trap, or a team can use DFSS developing a complex mechanical system like a lawnmower or an electromechanical system like a motor.
