The central idea to appreciate and practice in the UP is short timeboxed iterative, adaptive development. Some additional best practices and key concepts in the UP include:
Tackle high-risk and high-value issues in early iterations— For example, if the new system is a server application that has to handle 2,000 concurrent clients with sub-second transaction response time, do not wait for many months (or years) to design and implement this high risk requirement.
